I was inspired to make embroidered clothing, and by sewing projects at the time, I decided to make a computer-controlled embroidery machine. To do this, I used an old sewing machine, stepper motors, and a lead screw from an old 3d printer, and software so an image can be uploaded, and G-code can control the sewing machine and fabric simultaneously to embroider the image. Converting the 3d printer to a 2-axis movement required designing 3d printed components and fixing them with the help of aluminum extrusion. To control the sewing machine’s stitch, I used another stepper motor that connected to the same drive belt as the old motor.
