The automatic plant pump was a group project for the intro Engineering course at Swarthmore, E17. The assignment was to make an embedded system that powered a pump and LCD with an Arduino. In the process, the project required design with CAD, electric circuits, breadboards, soldering, iteration, and Arduino programming. The circuit, Arduino, and internal components of the project needed to function well - and were relatively straightforward. However, because of my background in CAD, my team decided to try to make our box as small as possible. I developed the CAD for the box. To make it compact, I modeled all of the electronic components and arranged them in a way that would maximize the density, allow for printing with minimal support material, provide an ergonomic user interface, and allow for the assembly of pre-soldered components. The enclosure worked very well and accomplished all the goals; it was also about a quarter of the size of most other groups.
